It’s Time to Feel Safe

We believe that this right can only be fully enjoyed when people have as much control over their day-to-day life as possible. And that includes living in one’s own home, with one’s own name on the lease. For more than two decades, Loisann was employed by Upward Bound, a government program that helps poor and minority students pursue a college experience. She was a counselor to the teens who wanted to attend college, helping them identify loans, fill out applications, and proof their writing samples.

Shelter for Women and Children

Our goal is for each sister to create an independent, successful and sustainable life for herself and her loved ones. Harbor House Review’s Mission is to break the cycle of domestic violence by providing safe refuge and supportive services that educate and empower those impacted by domestic violence. Up to 40 women and children are welcomed as guests each night in our clean, safe shelter. More than a roof over their head, our shelter is a place that provides a sense of safety and security and surrounds women with support needed to work on the root problems that led to homelessness. Our Center for Women and Children is one of the few local shelters to welcome children. Poverty and housing instability are especially harmful during early childhood, often causing problems in school.

Loisann exemplified the ideals of Harbor House Review, which strives to instill hope in and provide direction for hurting, children and their families. Stephanie grew up in generational poverty, became a mom as a teenager and dropped out of school. She was sleeping with her baby girl on a couch in a crowded mobile home. Recovery is a lifelong process and doesn’t end after a client’s stay. Setting up aftercare is a critical component for all clients and is handled on an individual basis. Our case managers can set clients up with sober living accommodations, assist in finding a sponsor and group meetings in their area, establish an ongoing MAT provider, and more.
